What's involved

A real exam, not a practice sheet at the kitchen table

Most children have never sat a formal exam before the 11 Plus. The paper is only half the challenge — the silence, the invigilator, the clock on the wall and the stranger sitting next to them is the other half. This is where they meet all of it for the first time, with nothing riding on the result.

🎓

Authentic GL papers

Two papers of about 50 minutes, covering English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Each paper is split into individually timed sections, exactly as in the real GL test — so your child has to finish each part before the next one starts. Answers go on a separate answer sheet, just like the real thing. Written by us, not taken from books you can buy.

🏛️

Real exam conditions

Timed papers, proper invigilators, complete silence and a short comfort break. Children leave knowing what the day actually feels like.

📊

Next-day report

A full statistical report by email the next evening: score and percentage in every subject, plus how your child ranked against everyone else who sat the paper.

Why free?

Because early information is worth more than early panic

We run one free mock a year, and we're straightforward about why. Families who see how we work usually come back for our paid mocks later in the year — that's the honest business reason.

The other reason is that we see the same thing every September: bright children who ran out of time, not ability. The real test comes in mid-September, so a January mock leaves around eight months to fix whatever the report turns up — enough time to make a difference, and not so long that it gets forgotten.

There's no catch, no card details, and nobody will phone you. You get the report whether you ever book anything else or not.

Where this leads

The schools your child is aiming for

The Grammar Schools in Birmingham consortium uses one GL-format test. Your child registers once, sits once, and that single score is used by every school on your application form.

It was National Offer Day yesterday and my son's place at KES was confirmed! The 11+ Mock Exams and the online Summer programme were invaluable in getting him exam ready. With our daughter at Stratford Girls Grammar School, we've scored 2/2 with grammar schools thanks to you!

Sasha completely overcame her shyness and by the time the exams arrived she was able to walk in with confidence — as far as she was concerned it was just business as usual.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no charge and no card details are taken. We run one free mock exam a year so families can see how we work, and so children can find out where they stand early enough to do something about it.

Which children is this for?

Only children who start Year 5 in September 2026. They sit the real 11 Plus in September 2027, which is usually mid-month, so a January mock leaves around eight months to act on whatever the report shows. We keep the free places for this year group because it is the point where the report can still change the outcome. Children in other year groups are very welcome at our paid mock exams.

How long does it take?

Just over two hours. Two papers of about 50 minutes each, with a short comfort break in between. Each paper is divided into individually timed sections, so children cannot go back to an earlier section or run ahead — the same rule as the real test. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time.

What is tested?

All four GL subjects — English, Mathematics, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Where do children write their answers?

On a separate multiple-choice answer sheet, exactly as in the real 11 Plus. Rough working can be done on the question paper — it is only the answers themselves that must be marked on the answer sheet. This catches children out more than anything else on the day: losing their place, filling in the wrong row, or running out of time to transfer answers across. Far better they meet it here than in September.

What does my child need to bring?

Nothing but themselves. All stationery is provided. They may bring a drink and a small snack for the break.

When do we get the results?

A detailed statistical report is emailed the next day, usually before 10pm. It shows the score in each subject, the percentage, and how your child ranked against everyone else sitting the same paper.

Can my child sit more than one of the three sittings?

No. Each child books one free sitting only — the three times are alternatives, so you pick whichever suits your family best. They all sit the same paper.

Can I book more than one child?

Yes. Brothers and sisters each get their own free sitting — just book them separately so we can produce a report for each of them.
